Carlos Alberto Haas was born in Guatemala and grew up in Germany. He studied musicology and history in Heidelberg, Rome and Munich. In 2018, he received his PhD from the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich with the thesis "Privacy in the Ghettos. Jewish Life in Poland under German Occupation 1939-1944." This thesis was awarded the Doctoral Prize of the Leibniz Association. He is currently a lecturer and researcher (Akademischer Rat a. Z.) in the Department of History at LMU Munich.
Carlos Fredy Ochoa studied conflict resolution at Uppsala University. His master's and doctoral studies were in anthropology at the University of Connecticut (UConn). He is a specialist in Mayan societies, their oral tradition, authority systems and customary law and has a particular interest in 15th century Mesoamerica. He is currently a professor of peace and security at the School of Political Science and director of the Institute of Political and Social Research at the University of San Carlos de Guatemala.
Bieke Willem is professor of Romance literature at the University of Cologne, Germany, and senior researcher at the Global South Studies Center (GSSC). She holds a PhD in literature from the University of Ghent, Belgium (2014). She has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at UC Berkeley and then as a lecturer at Stockholm University, Sweden, specializing in contemporary Latin American literature. She has contributed to books and academic journals with articles on memories of the Chilean (post)dictatorship, on the literary representation of space, and on its effect in literature and film.
Wolfgang Fuhrmann is a researcher and lecturer in Film Studies. He received his PhD in Film Studies from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Prior to that he completed a Master of Arts in Film and Television Studies at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. From 2005 to 2008 he was Senior Researcher in the German Research Society (DFG) project 'Film and Ethnography in Germany, 1900-1930' at the University of Kassel, Germany. From 2008 until 2017, he worked as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Film at the University of Zurich, Switzerland.
Nelson Arellano-Escudero holds a PhD in Sustainability, Technology and Humanism from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. He is an academic researcher at the Humanities Institute of the Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano (Santiago de Chile) and responsible investigator for the Fondecyt Iniciación project nº11180158 (2018-2021) "Chile's solar frontiers: Desert, Antarctica, Polynesia and Space. A story of governance and social values of solar technologies in extreme zones (1976-2011)".
Está aberta a chamada, a ser realizada anualmente, para o Programa de Cátedras CALAS-IEAT, promovido pelo Centro Maria Sibylla Merian de Estudos Latino-americanos Avançados (CALAS) e pelo Instituto de Estudos Avançados Transdisciplinares (IEAT) da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG). O programa é administrado pelo IEAT e patrocinado pelo CALAS. A Cátedra abarca uma estadia de três meses do pesquisador no IEAT.
