CALAS will offer different formats for individual researchers who wish to develop their research without the constraints of day-to-day academic life.
I. Senior research fellowships
Annually, CALAS grants six Individual fellowships to distinguished experts in Latin American Studies for research stays at the Guadalajara headquarters as well as at each regional center of CALAS in San José-Costa Rica, Quito-Ecuador, and Buenos Aires-Argentina. Applicants are expected to contribute to the development of new methodological and analytic approaches to understand changes and crises from a Latin-American perspective. This may include a revision of Latin-American approaches, theories, and methodologies that deal with crises.

II. Guest Chairs
Complementing the fellowships at the central and regional centers, CALAS implements guest chairs in cooperation with affiliated partners in Latin America and Europe.
a) Guest Chair in Cuba
In cooperation with the Thyssen foundation and the University of Havanna, the CALAS guest chair Cuba is open once a year for a period of up to six month.

b) Guest Chair in Brazil
A second CALAS guest chair is hosted at the Instituto de Estudos Avançados Transdisciplinares of the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The call is open once a year for a perior of three month

c) Guest Chair in Germany (Bielefeld-Kassel)
A further CALAS guest chair in Germany is hosted by the Universities of Bielefeld and Kassel and is open once a year for a a period of four month.
