The production of knowledge in the global academic field is still highly unevenly distributed. Western knowledge, which originated in Western Europe and was deepened in the transatlantic exchange with North America, is still considered an often unquestioned reference in many academic disciplines. Thus, this specific, regional form of knowledge production has become universalized.
Esta plataforma parte de pensar la articulación entre política, afectos e identidades en América Latina en contextos atravesados por múltiples crisis. América Latina, como el resto del mundo, atraviesa y atravesó diversos momentos de crisis, de cambios rápidos y convulsionados y otros lentos pero perdurables. En este sentido amplio, que Marshall Berman ha definido como la experiencia de la modernidad, puede sostenerse que el mundo siempre ha estado en crisis o que todos los períodos contienen su crisis.
América Latina se caracteriza por ser el continente más desigual y al mismo tiempo aquel en que los esquemas para regular la riqueza con el objetivo de romper los regímenes de inequidad, han mostrado rotundos fracasos. Sistemas tributarios regresivos, Estados capturados por las elites financieras, prácticas como fugas de capitales y malversación de fondos públicos, son algunas de las marcas históricas de nuestras sociedades.
Latin America is the most unequal region in the world and mechanisms to regulate wealth and reduce inequity continue to failure. Historically, our societies have been characterized by regressive tax systems, states captured by financial elites, capital flight, and the embezzlement of public funds. Tax revenues in Latin America depend on consumption duties and the export of raw materials. By 2015, only 1.8% of GDP was generated from income tax, compared to 8.3% in OECD countries. In some nations of the region, accumulated wealth reaches 60% of GDP.
