Regional Center Southern Cone and Brazil
The Southern Cone Regional Center of Maria Sibylla Merian CALAS will have its epicenter at the National University of San Martín, a public and free institution of higher education, located strategically in the district of General San Martín in Buenos Aires, in a joint collaboration with the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Germany).
Regional Center Central America and the Caribbean
The Central America & Caribbean headquarters of MSM-CALAS is sponsored by the Central American Historical Research Center (CIHAC: https://cihac.fcs.ucr.ac.cr/) located at the University of Costa Rica, in San José. It is supported by the Center for Atlantic and Global Studies from Leibniz University Hanover (Germany). The collaboration between CIHAC and CAGS can be traced back to the mid-1990s and has been reinforced since 2011 with joint research projects and shared postgraduate courses.
Regional Center Andean Region
The regional headquarters of CALAS in the Andean region is housed by the Latin American Social Sciences Institute (FLACSO) Ecuador, a public institution and member of the international network of the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences, which has a presence in fifteen countries in the region. Within the CALAS network, the management of this regional center is jointly coordinated by FLACSO Ecuador and the University of Kassel (Germany). The Regional Center will rely on the systematic participation of researchers from these institutions and other academic centers in Ecuador and the Andean region.
Headquarters Mexico
The headquarters of CALAS is housed in the University Center of Social Sciences and Humanities (CUCSH) of the University of Guadalajara (UdeG) – a public institution that provides quality educational services both within and outside the metropolitan area of Guadalajara. Founded in 1791, the UdeG is the second oldest university in Mexico and one of the country’s most recognized and influential academic institutions.. ..
Nadine Pollvogt
Nadine Pollvogt studied Social Sciences and Latin American Studies in Bielefeld (Germany), Barcelona (Spain) and Guadalajara (Mexico). She holds a Master's degree in InterAmerican Studies from the Bielefeld University, where she is currently research assistant at the Center for InterAmerican Studies (CIAS) and executive manager of the Maria Sibylla Merian Center for Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS).

Joachim Michael is a full professor for Interamerican Studies and Romance Studies at the University of Bielefeld, Germany, since April 2014; Chair “Émile Durkheim” at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, April 2018; Chair “Cátedra Santander de Estudos Ibero-Latinoamericanos”, Instituto de Estudos Avançados Transdisciplinares (IEAT), Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil, September 2015; Visiting Professor at the Texas A&M International University, TAMIU, in Laredo, Texas, USA, and at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico
