The CALAS Laboratory "Visions of Peace" is pleased to invite to the online conference "Peace and Fear: Multidisciplinary Approaches'', organized in cooperation with the Interdisziplinäre Konflikt- und Gewaltforschung (IKG), the Zentrum für Interdisziplinäre Forschung (ZiF) and Prof. Dr Roberto Briceño-León (Universidad Central de Venezuela). The event will take place via zoom between the 17th to 19th of February 2021. Prior registration is required by sending an e-mail to Marina Hoffmann (marina.hoffmann@uni-bielefeld.de).

Die Corona-Krise trifft Lateinamerika mit besonderer Härte. Die Gesundheitssysteme sind prekär und über soziale Absicherung verfügen nur Wenige. Schon vor dem Ausbruch der Pandemie befand sich die Region in einer tiefen wirtschaftlichen, politischen und sozialen Krise. Armut, soziale Ungleichheiten, autoritäre Politiken, Korruption, Gewalt sowie die Diskriminierung sozialer, politischer und kultureller Rechte haben in den letzten Jahren stark zugenommen und provozierten Unmut und Massenproteste.

Encuentro internacional de lanzamiento del Laboratorio que se da con el objetivo de abrir espacios de reflexión y discusión que traten sobre las formas en que la paz y la violencia coexisten, así como las áreas de tensión y transición entre ambas. La conferencia ofreció la oportunidad de un debate conceptual sobre la relación entre la paz y la violencia y sirvió de plataforma para el diálogo internacional e interdisciplinario entre investigadores de América Latina y Europa. Por esta razón, algunas de las presentaciones, pero no todas, tenían un contexto regional y latinoamericano.

Modes of Organizing Knowledge Production and Higher Education in the 21st Century

The Evangelische Akademie Hofgeismar in Germany will host the international congress on the climate crisis in Latin America from January 24 to 26, 2020 (title in German: Krisen-Klima: Umweltkonflikte aus lateinamerikanischer Perspektive im Gespräch mit Kirchen, Wissenschaft, Politik und Zivilgesellschaft). The conference participants will discuss the global aspects of the various current environmental crises, from a perspective focusing on Latin America.

El siglo XXI abrió con una América Latina que retoma un incursionar por los caminos de la izquierda; lo cual estuvo asociado a la expansión de políticas de los gobiernos progresistas, dirigidas a incidir en una recuperación del desarrollo económico y social. En este contexto, la región comenzó a expresar algunos índices de recuperación.
