In this episode, Elvira Narvaja de Arnoux (Argentina), Angela Schrott (Germany) and Gerardo Gutiérrez Cham (Mexico), experts in the field of linguistics, focus on the analysis of the discourses heard and read daily about the outbreak of the health crisis caused by COVID-19.
Three years ago, when CALAS started its research program, we thought of several dimensions that can be considered endemic: violence, social inequality, socio-environmental conflicts and phenomena related to collective identities such as racism, classism or machismo. However, we cannot imagine a situation like the one we are in now, in the midst of an unprecedented health crisis caused by the outbreak of COVID-19. What are the references of this health crisis and how does it impact Latin American societies? In this episode we will listen to a debate between three linguists who are dedicated to researching and analyzing the discourses that emerge in the public sphere about the health crisis.
