Lucero de Vivanco holds a PhD in Hispanic American Literature from the University of Chile and a Full Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities of the Alberto Hurtado University. His research explores the relationships between literature, history, culture, politics, violence and society in Latin America. He is currently leading a research project on the figure of the victim in cultural productions in Peru, Chile and Haiti.

She is the author of Dispares: violencia y memoria en la narrativa peruana (Fondo Editorial PUCP, 2021) and Historias del más acá: imaginario apocalyptico en la literatura peruana (IEP, 2013) and editor of Memorias en tinta. Essays on the representation of political violence in Argentina, Chile and Peru (Ediciones UAH, 2013). With Maria Teresa Johansson, she has edited Snapshots on the March. Cultural repertoire of the mobilizations in Chile (Ediciones UAH, 2021) and contemporary Pasts. Interdisciplinary approaches to human rights and memories in Peru and Latin America (Iberoamericana Vervuert, 2019).

Title: Thresholds of the victim: representations, constructions, speeches

Summary: The project «Thresholds of the Victim: representations, constructions, discourses» proposes to examine in depth one of the most relevant but also more complex issues regarding violence and the transitions between violence and peace: the category of victim and the issue of victimization. It is proposed to problematize in the literature -both fictional and testimonial- some common meanings regarding the notion of victim and its political uses, as well as some conceptualizations about victimization formulated in the framework of the human rights paradigm, to think about the experience of Latin American countries, particularly Mexico and Peru, according to their specific processes and contexts of violence and peace.

From the theoretical perspective of the studies on memory, history, and representation, problematization will be carried out by proposing a model of analysis based on the notion of «threshold», understood in three of its meanings: a) threshold as a place of transit and passage, that is, of connection and mobility between two spaces or liminary orders, to think the eventual

continuities, transmutations or transformations between the victim and the perpetrator; b) threshold as a boundary between contiguous but opposite positions, such as violence/peace, purity/perversity, body/disappeared, memory/silencing; c) threshold as a limit -minimum, maximum- of pain, memory, silence, justice, language, life, boundaries all involved in the victim experience. It is proposed, as a general hypothesis, that the category of victim, analyzed from the notion of threshold as defined here, unfolds in a more complex way, that is, within spectra of significance and action that break with polarized definitions, naturalized or complacent; whether it is considered the degree of «participation» of the victim in the acts of violence that involve her, her «vulnerability», or the «testimonial discourse» that constitutes and makes her visible as such.
