Javier Taks

PhD in Anthropology from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. Degree in Anthropological Sciences from the University of the Republic of Uruguay. Postgraduate Diploma in Urban Environmental Management from IHS Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Post-doctorate in Development Studies at the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas, Mexico. Professor and researcher at the Universidad de la República (Udelar), in the Department of Cultural and Social Anthropology (Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences) and in the Multidisciplinary Unit, Degree in Development (Faculty of Social Sciences).  Coordinator of the UNESCO Chair on Water and Culture, Udelar, of the water family of the Intergovernmental Hydrological Program of UNESCO. Focal point of the Water Group of the Inter-American Network of National Academies of Science. His lines of research revolve around the study of society and environment relations (energy, climate change, water); transformations in rural dynamics; urban mobility; development theory, economic anthropology and political ecology.
